Sigma's 'I series' of full-frame mirrorless compatible lenses offer users a new and better alternative, both when shooting and when reviewing the great results that these small, lightweight lenses are capable of.
Compact and lightweight
Weighing just 370 grams and measuring 72.4 millimetres in length (in its L-Mount version), this compact lens is extremely practical, portable and comfortable for everyday use. It is ideal for landscapes, wide-angle portraits, weddings and interiors, and is particularly suitable for astrophotography due to its sagittal coma flare control.
The 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary is almost identical in size and weight to the Sigma 24mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary in this same 'I series' family. Like it, it sports an elegant all-metal body with a magnetic cap, a manual aperture ring and an exceptional build quality that provides highly intuitive and satisfying use.
Beautifully crafted and capable of delivering excellent results, this prime lens embodies the essence of the 'I series' by adding a new layer to the user experience: the pleasure of owning and using a lens.
New optical performance standards for the Contemporary range
The 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary provides the highest level of optical performance even at its maximum aperture of F2, from the centre to the edges of the image.
Based on the latest optical design technology, its internal construction includes three high-precision moulded glass aspherical elements, an SLD element and an FLD element to suppress various optical aberrations. The result is clear, sharp images even in the corners of the frame.
By focusing on the suppression of sagittal coma flare, which is difficult to correct in post-processing, accurate reproduction of very bright points of light has been achieved. This also provides results with extreme detail throughout the image, which is especially important for night sky photography.
The optical design as well as the Super Multi-Layer and Nanoporous Coatings (NPC) ensure minimal flare and ghosting, even when shooting bright light sources. This makes it much easier to shoot backlit subjects with striking, high-contrast results.
Exceptional build quality
All optics in the 'I series' family have an all-metal construction. Precision-cut aluminium parts not only give the lens barrel a sleek and elegant finish, but also provide excellent durability that enhances the quality of the whole.
Metal materials are also used in internal structures that move with the control ring for added robustness.
These high-precision components made with Sigma's cutting-edge metalworking technology are also used in Sigma's line of cinema optics for professional cinematographers and provide a fantastic tactile and ergonomic feel.
The barrel coating between the focus ring and aperture ring features a finely knurled design that is also used for the Art line's rear ring. This coating provides a firm grip in the hand when attaching or removing the lens.
