Newly designed HSM for agile AF control
The redesigned hypersonic motor (HSM) is larger, offering 1.3 times the torque of its predecessor. Even at low speeds, it delivers exceptionally stable performance. The updated AF algorithm helps ensure agile autofocus performance. In addition, full-time manual focus allows the lens to switch to manual focus simply by turning the focus ring, even during continuous AF. The user can quickly find the perfect focus without touching the focus mode switch.
Dust- and splash-resistant mount construction
The lens mount incorporates a rubber sealing to protect the mount from dust and water droplets. The front and rear lenses feature a water- and oil-repellent coating that is particularly useful when shooting in drizzle, near the ocean, and in a wide variety of other conditions.
