Built-in Macro Lite technology

This EF-M series lens features two built-in controllable LEDs (Macro Lite). This feature provides additional illumination in front of the lens to eliminate unnecessary shadows, which you can often create yourself and your equipment when shooting macro photography.

The combination of the contact points and the use of Macro Lite (when necessary) allows you to capture detailed macro shots.

The EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM has a true 1:1 magnification ratio, which means the subject you're photographing appears life-size in the image. If you want to explore and magnify the finer details of your subject, you can activate the Super Macro mode. With an extraordinary 1.2x magnification, you can magnify your subject beyond life size. By taking into account the crop factor of the EOS M's APS-C size sensor, resulting in a 35mm equivalent magnification of 1.92x, users can capture incredibly fine details such as the natural veins of plants or the detailed design of jewellery. Plus, in Super Macro mode, you can get incredibly close (13mm working distance), allowing you to explore tiny objects.

With a large aperture of f/3.5 and a 35mm equivalent focal length of approx. 44.8mm (because mirrorless cameras have cropped sensors), you can shoot with a natural angle of view and perspective for a wide variety of shots.
