The Image Circle allows cinematographers to use not only full-frame sensors (size = 43.14mm), but can also fill the Vista Vision sensors on the RED Monstro and the sensor on the Arri Alexa LF (open door size = 44.7mm) completely.

The lens is also ideal for owners of Super 35 sized cameras with the ultra wide 17mm equivalent field of view and is a future decision for cinematographers who need to upgrade large format cameras.

This 12mm lens is extremely compact and lightweight despite the specs. It measures 3.4” (87mm) long and weighs less than 1.5lbs (675g). It can be easily installed on any type of stabilization system, including handheld gimbals.

The optical distortion of the ultra wide angle lens will never be a nightmare for DoP. The distortion rate of good wide-angle lenses on the market ranges from 2-4%. Venus Optics, however, can compress the distortion to a level close to zero. In fact, the "Zero-D" claim had been validated by many Laowa lens owners around the world.

The lens capable of focusing at an extremely close focusing distance. You can focus from 7” from the sensor (<4” from the front element) to infinity. In this case, diopters will not be needed. Wide-angle lenses typically create a "flat" image with a very deep DOF, but with this close focus capability and fast t-stop, the Laowa 12mm can create a unique shallow, wide DOF look with pleasing bokeh.

*A 114mm ring is included in the package to expand the front diameter to fit the industrial size matte box. Venus Optics has tested with a number of matte boxes on the market and is still vignetting free on the VV sensor with the matte box installed.
